We were scheduled to depart from Manila at 12:30pm but it got delayed due to some technical problems. The plane took off way past 1pm and we got to the HK airport barely 30 minutes before our connecting flight to Toronto. The flight to HK was uneventful. No turbulence whatsoever. Or was there? I guess it got a little bumpy toward the end as it was raining heavily in HK. It was bearable, though.
There’s free wifi connection everywhere in the HK airport. I was able to go online and published a number of tweets. Oh yeah, talk about being narcissistic and all. I always have this little urge to update my friends either through Twitter or Facebook or both.
After sitting in the airport for a meager 15 minutes, we had to board the plane going to Toronto.
I remember I was so hungry by the time I got into the plane. And that was already past 4pm. The reason? Well, they had not served the much-awaited lunch for chrissake.
Finally, the lunch was served. I, of course, opted to have something with rice in it. Because I was so hungry, I finished all my food in less than 10 minutes.
The problem with long flights is that they get boring as the hours pass by. It’s a good thing that we all have individual entertainment sets.
If you’re an avid reader of this blog, you sure know that I have this fear of riding airplanes. Man, I’m happy to let everyone know that I have already conquered that fear. I realized that what I need is actually to have someone I know to travel with me. The flight to Toronto got shaky a number of times but they’re all tolerable. At times I would say to myself, “Bring it on!” Hahaha. I recall that we actually encountered a mild turbulence when I was in the washroom. Crappy-doo.
I was only able to finish one movie during the entire flight. It’s not because I didn’t like the movie lineup. It’s just that my eyes got tired of just staring at the small screen in front of me. Maybe I should have put on my eyeglasses that time.
After more than 14 hours, the plane finally touched down the Toronto airport. Local time was 7:30PM. A little chilly but it was all good.
Then, a thirty-minute taxi ride took us from the airport to our hotel. That’s the time I had my first glimpse of Toronto – a truly bustling city.
