Another Unfortunate Event

I was sound asleep when the fire alarm in our apartment building went off last night. I jumped out of my bed completely freaked out. The disturbing alarm was accompanied by my thoughts of the recent strong earthquake that hit Toronto. Obviously, it made the situation even more frightening.

The funny thing is that I realized that I was just wearing my usual white shirt and boxers. Being the messy guy that I am, I had a hard time finding a good enough pair of shorts. I was thinking that if the security personnel would ask everyone to immediately evacuate the building, I would definitely win the Best in Costume award. LOL

Going back to the story… After a few minutes and while the fire alarm was still on, the building security officer announced that they have already called the city fire department and the fire trucks are on their way. They will be checking the cause of the alarm that originated from the ninth floor. I am on the 21st floor by the way.

A few more minutes later, I heard fire truck sirens and I had this feeling that this could really be a serious one. I was looking out my window trying to see how many trucks were approaching our building. I saw just one.

Then the security officer informed all the building occupants that they are already checking out the 9th floor and verifying if there really was a need to evacuate. He asked everyone to stay alert and wait for the next announcements.

You know how it felt like, right? Waiting for the next announcements was terrible. I felt as though every second lasted a million years. Crazy.

The good thing is that it was a false alarm.

Second time in just a month. The first one was in our office building a couple of weeks ago.

Oh well…

Tulip Festival – Commissioner’s Park

On a hot Sunday morning, with the sky so blue, I went to the Commissioner’s Park on the shores of Dow’s Lake to see hundreds of thousands of tulips.

Adidas King of the Road 2009

It’s not a question of whether I will be able to finish the 5-kilometer run or not. The real question is how long would it take me to complete it. I’m hoping that it would be under 30 minutes. :D

I wanted to come up with a lengthy post about the Federer-Roddick match but…

I think it would be best not to.

Anyways, congratulations to Roger. And good job, Andy. It was indeed a superb match.  I’m looking forward to the US Open.

Need to read some nerdy stuff. Gonna catch up on tons of reading. :)

First Day High (or Low)

It was my first day at work yesterday. Nothing fancy, really. I just filled up countless forms, read lots of slides about the company and stuff, and got myself an access card. And sat in front of the computer until the clock ticked 5:30 PM.

I’m still looking for a place to stay here in Makati. I’ve made several calls to different brokers and was able to make an appointment with only one of them. I’ll be viewing a unit at noon today. Hopefully I’ll like the place and eventually settle everything so that I can move in this coming weekend.

I have with me a John Grisham novel. Yep, I failed to finish it last week because I got busy. But I’m trying catch up. Good thing the story is becoming more and more exciting. So that’s all for now folks. Will try to update this blog frequently. I won’t promise, though. LOL

I joined the world in observing Earth Hour

Earth Hour

When the clock ticked 8:30PM, I made sure that everything in my room was turned off – the TV, lights, air conditioning unit, electric fan, my laptop and the cable decoder. Though it seemed that most people residing in our block didn’t bother to participate in this important event, I didn’t care. I am convinced that doing this small thing together with million others from around the world would mean a lot in saving our planet.

The funny thing is that I went out of our condo and headed straight to the nearby mall to have my dinner. I’m not sure if it was a form of cheating or something. I may have turned off everything in my room but I was in a mall with shops brightly lit and with air conditioning units set to the coldest temperature. How’s that for saving our planet?

I didn’t cheat, did I?

Disappointing Match

The French Open Men’s Single Finals turned out to be a disappointing match. It’s not because Federer Express was losing and that I’m his fan. It’s actually because I hate Nadal and I didn’t want him to win. It’s also because of Nadal’s very annoying habit of picking at his underwear once every 2 seconds. Verrrry Irritating.
